Traditionally and generally, the Firm's practice area encompasses every major area of conveyancing, corporate and commercial law, banking and finance (conventional and Islamic), secured lending and structured finance, privatization, infrastructure, highways, water and energy power projects, property development and finance, corporate and debt restructuring, take-overs, mergers and acquisitions, joint-ventures and trade alliances, international trade and cross-border transactions, civil litigation, arbitration and dispute resolutions.


The Firm has handled and dealt with projects and financing running into hundred of millions in value in foreign as well as local currency. The single largest project that we have handled so far is an Islamic financing close to a billion Malaysian Ringgit. In terms of cross-border transactions, we have covered and dealt with jurisdictions of European countries, Africa, China and Asia in the laying of the groundwork, providing legal advisory services and preparing corporate agreements or project financing instruments or documentation. In the process, we have developed considerable international and cross-border counsel network for mutual assistance in providing comprehensive and expeditious legal services to the clients.


With regard to Islamic Banking and Finance, the Firm has ample experience in the preparation of Islamic financing legal documentation. In the early 80’s we assisted Bank Islam in the development of Islamic security instruments from the basics to the more complex documents. Over the years, we assisted other banking institutions like Malayan Banking Berhad, Bank Bumiputra Malaysia Berhad (as it was then known), Affin Bank Berhad in the development of similar instruments as they started to introduce Islamic Banking. Recently, we have also been involved in helping RHB Islamic Bank Berhad making comparative studies of Islamic Banking in other Muslim countries and along the way assisted them in developing concepts and instruments which are deemed more compliant with Shariah requirements. The Firm is also well-versed in the preparation of syndicated Islamic financing between local and foreign banks.


The scope of works under Islamic Financing documentation handled by Our Firm include among others, Bai Bithaman Ajil Asset Financing, Bai Inah, Bai Dayn, Ijarah, Bai Istisna’, Kafalah, Mudharabah, Murabahah, Bai Musyarakah, Wakalah, Sukuk and other Islamic products.

Recently the Firm, in conjunction with CIMB Bank Berhad received an award from Islamic Finance Asia under the “Best Service Providers Poll 2010” category for Malaysia for structuring “Trade Finance Deal of the Year – Proton Perodua RM300 Million Trade Program”.
